Tourism - related Vocabulary


1. Accommodation - compose of lodging, food ,services or traveling space.
2. Admission Fee - a fixed charge for a privilege or for professional services.
3. Brochure - a handout with complete information and also use as an advertising material.
4. Camping site - is a place used for overnight stay in outdoors.
5. Campsite - a site where people on holiday can pitch a tent.
6. Car rental - a company that rents automobiles for short periods of time generally ranging from few hours to few weeks for a fee.
7. Car hire -a company that grants people the right to use one of their automobiles for a short period in return for payment.
8. Car park - is a cleared area that is intended for parking vehicles.
9. Caravan - a company of traveler journeying together as a cross a desert.
10. City centre - an area that is approximately central within some larger region.
11. Cruise - to sail or travel about as a pleasure or reconnaissance.
12. Double room - is a private room with one large bed accommodating 2 people.
13. Double with twin beds - is a private room with 2 single beds in it accommodating 2 people.
14. Downtown - the commercial center of a town or a city.
15. Flight - an instance of traveling by air.
16. Fort night - 14 days of period or 2 weeks.
17. Guest house - similar to hostel where the guest stay.
18. Guide - to assist ( a person ) to travel through.
19. High season - the season when travel is most active and rates are high.
20. Hiking trail - a marked or beaten path as trough woods or wilderness.
21. Holidays - a day free from work that one may spend at leisure.
22. Holiday maker - someone who travels for pleasure.
23. Hostel - a supervised inexpensive lodging place for travelers especially young travelers.
24. Hotel - a commercial run establishment providing lodging and usually meals for guests and often containing public bar.
25. Hotel chain - a group of hotels which belong to the same company or owner, or are associated in some way.
26. Inn - a public lodging house serving food and drinks to travelers.

28. Motor home - a motor vehicle built on a truck or bus chassis and designed to serve as a self contained living quarter for recreational travel.
29. One way ticket itinerary - means that you have planned to go somewhere but you have not planned to return.
30. One way ticket - that is for one way trip.
31. Package deal - offer combining several concessions ,parts units or a range of services.
32. Parking lot - cleared areas intended for parking vehicles.
33. Resort - a place for relaxation or recreation .
34. Return ticket - ticket that allows you to go back to the starting point of your travel.
35. Round ticket - a trip to a given place and back again.
36. Season - one of the four natural divisions of the year,spring,summer,fall and winter in north and south temperate zones
37. Sightseeing tour - tour of places of interest.
38. Single ticket - a ticket use only by 1 person.
39. Single room - a room with a single bed for 1 person only.
40. Sight seen - to tour sights of interest.
41. Ski resort - a resort with lodging and facilities for skiing .
42. Sun Lotion - a substance applied to the skin to protect it from the effects of sun rays
43. Sun glasses- a convex lens used to focus the sun's rays and produce heat, especially for ignition.
44. Sunblock -a cream or lotion for protecting the skin from the sun and sunburn
45. Sunburn-reddening, inflammation and in severe cases, blistering and peeling of the skin caused by overexposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun.
46. Theme park-an amusement park in which all the settings and attractions have a central theme, such as the world of the future.
47. Time-sharing-the advance purchase of time in holiday accommodation where the purchaser buys a capital sum to acquire a timeshare and then pays an annual contribution towards the maintenance of the property-both interior and communal areas, and the period of time soldis usually based on modules of a week (WTO, 1996).
48. Tour operator-a person or company that provides package holidays.
49. Tourist office-an office where visitors of the place can get information about what to see and do, especially while on holiday, or an official organization that runs the office.
50. Travel agency-an agency that makes the necessary arrangements for travelers, esp. the booking of airline tickets and hotel rooms.
51. Travel agent-someone who sells or arranges trip or tours for customers.
52. Vacation-an extended period of recreation, esp. one spent away from home or in traveling.
53. Voyage-a long journey involving travel by the sea.
54. Waiting lists-a lists of people waiting for something.
55. Youth hostel-a place providing cheap accommodations aimed mainly at young people on walking or cycling tours.
56. To book- to call for reservation.
57. To confirm- to give approval or support.
58. To fly-to float in the air with a vehicle.
59. To go on holiday-to have a free day/s from work that one way to spend at leisure.
60. To go abroad- to go away from one's country.
61. To go camping- to shelter or lodge in a camp.

70. To have a bad time-to suffer loneliness.

72. To hold a reservation-to retain booking.
73. To plan-to formulate a scheme or program.
74. To rent a car-to grant a temporary use of car.
75. To stay-to have a brief period of residence or visiting.
76. To sunbath-to have an exposure of the body under the sun.
77. To take a holiday-to have a day free from work that one may spend at leisure.
78. To take a photograph-to have an image of something or someone.
79. To travel-to go from one place to another.
80. Wanderlust-is a strong desire to travel.
